Shambhala Masters’ Guidelines for Meditation As A Lived Experience

There are as many different kinds of meditation as there are teachers teaching it. And Shambhala Masters know that none of these meditation techniques are worth much if they do not powerfully effect the way people live their lives. Your meditation is reduced to time-out and stress reduction if it is not practically applied to everyday living. Make your meditation a lived experience by doing the following:

  1. Continually ask your Core Self, "How do I want to feel about this situation? How do I want to react to this turn of events?"
  2. Listen with your Heart to what your Core Self tells you.
  3. Take no action until you align your feelings, thoughts, and behavior with the spiritual Core of your Self.
  4. Courageously act on your Core values, beliefs, needs, agendas, and intentions by bracketing your socially instilled fears, chemically controlled behavior, and your self-doubt.
  5. Authorize and validate yourself. Do not look to others for permission or approval.
  6. Know that everything you think, feel, say and do powerfully contributes to evolutionary excellence.
  7. Walk your talk. Let your behavior speak to your Core values, beliefs, needs, agendas, and intentions, without preaching or trying to convert others to your way of being.
  8. Create relationships that cut across conventionally respected barriers of age, gender, financial status, religion, and cultural backgrounds so your influence is not artificially limited.
  9. Consciously and communicatively make every step you take be toward Integrity and Self-loyalty.
  10. Focus your time, attention and energy on your relationship with your Core Self and your relationships with those who nurture, support and enliven you.
